How it works

All children aged 3 to 18 are welcome to join The Children’s Music Academy, whether they are absolute beginners with no prior musical knowledge, intermediate or advanced budding musicians.

As all our music lessons are provided on a one to one basis, your children are invited to start their music course at any time during the year and choose the most convenient day and time for attending their lessons (subject to availability).

All our music lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes in duration and take place weekly on a set day and time.

Showing documents to show how it works

As we provide personalised tuition for each child, you are free to choose whether you would like your children to pass the ABRSM or Trinity College grade examinations. Also, your children are welcome to continue their education for as many years as they wish to, after attending lessons for a minimum of three consecutive terms.

After completing the registration process, which consists of completing our application form, signing our terms and making your payment in full or per instalments, your children are then able to start straight away. The registration process takes place via email.

At The Children’s Music Academy, we require a minimum commitment of three consecutive terms as we believe that it is the minimum attendance necessary for your children to benefit fully from their music education.

Please note that lessons must be attended during school terms and that additional lessons are provided during school holidays, if you wish your children to attend their music lessons throughout the year.

All our music lessons are provided in our premises in central London in W1.

Frequently asked questions

We are located at Fitzrovia Music Studios – 60-62 Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, W1W 7QF.

Children can start their music lessons at any age, as our instructors will use musical games with very young ones who are not mature enough to understand the concept of learning. If your child already shows an interest in music, as young as three years old, he or she is more than welcome to join The Children’s Music Academy. We believe that being exposed to music as early as possible is a wonderful opportunity that should not be missed.

We certainly offer introductory lessons to children who are unsure about being interested in playing or uncertain of the instrument they wish to study. Our introductory lessons are of the same duration as our regular lessons (45 minutes) to ensure that your child truly benefits from his or her first exposure to music. Any shorter introductory lesson would not give enough time for your child to evaluate his or her abilities and enjoyment.

There is no need to have any special talent to join The Children’s Music Academy. We believe that all children can learn how to play music, and our role is to unleash the musical abilities present in each one. Of course, some children might be more gifted than others, but in music playing, talent only plays a small part compared to benefiting from the advice of an expert tutor and assiduous personal practice.

Of course! We welcome both children who play for their enjoyment and those who wish to embrace a music career. By knowing your child’s intention, his or her instructor will adapt their teaching style and expectations accordingly. In both cases, we will always ensure the most suitable and excellent music instruction.

Some parents worry about not being able to help their children due to not having a musical background. Be reassured, it is fine, as his or her instructor will detail the homework to be completed in between the lessons. If you feel that you would like to support your child further, why don’t you join the London Piano Institute? They provide world-class lessons for adults in London. (They also offer guitar, bass, drums, singing, violin, and cello lessons)

It would be fantastic if you could attend your child’s music lessons, as it would be an excellent way to better understand his or her instructor’s expectations and ensure that your child can practice in the right manner between his or her music lessons. However, we would advise against it if you feel that your child would focus better when alone with the instructor.

You will need to purchase an instrument for your child to practice between his or her lessons. It will inspire your child tremendously and make him or her incredibly proud. If you are unsure of the most suitable instrument to acquire, we will be delighted to advise you and offer our recommendation. Having a good instrument to practice on from day one is essential for your child’s interest and enjoyment.

Yes, you will need to buy the music scores as recommended by your child’s instructor for him or her to practice between the lessons.

Your child surely needs to practice between his or her lessons. There are two factors necessary for making good progress: attending excellent music lessons and practicing daily. During his or her lessons, your child will benefit from the guidance of an expert instructor. Gaining precious knowledge will then allow him or her to practise effectively between his or her lessons.

It all depends on your child’s current musical level and the speed at which he or she wishes to achieve their desired goals. As a guideline, we suggest your child start with 15 minutes daily, increasing to an hour or two as he or she gets older and more proficient. Regardless of the time your child can dedicate to personal practice, we strongly recommend daily practice for regular and good progress.

Absolutely. The instructor will assign a fair amount of homework weekly, according to his or her age and musical level. The homework will be written down in a notebook to ensure that parents are aware of the exercises and music pieces to be practised. The instructor will also fully detail how to practise effectively for your child to make the most of his or her personal practice sessions.

We strongly suggest all children sit the ABRSM grade examinations as it brings a lot of structure to a music course, inspires children to practise with a goal in mind, and offers him or her the opportunity to know his or her musical level. Getting a certificate for their achievement will also certainly make them proud and encourage them to work well to get to the next level.

Due to the high qualifications and expertise of our music instructors, we are sadly unable to offer any discount for siblings. We would, however, be delighted to welcome them at The Children’s Music Academy, should they wish to embark on a musical journey with their brothers and sisters.
